Lyric composition contest by the Network for Children’s Rights
“What if we sing about them?”
Could this finally be the solution for everyone to understand the rights of children and respect them in practice?
The Network for Children’s Rights organizes a lyric composition contest for all children. Our goal is to make songs about the children’s rights from the lyrics and in this way the rights become more widely known and respected!
With our competition we want to inform and raise public awareness about the rights of children, as defined in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is a law of the Greek state since 1992 (N2101/92), but also to encourage the children themselves to better understand their rights, be inspired by them and express themselves in creative way.
As of now, we have with us Tatiana Zografou, Aggelos Aggelou, Theodore Papaioannou, the Burger Project, Christos Thivaios, George Christodoulou, George Charonitis, Dimitris Baslam, Maria Papageorgiou, Babis Stokas, Savveria Margiola, George Gonias, Aristides Marantos, Antonis Papatheodoulou, Foivos Delivorias, Dilema, Nikos Zoudiaris, Stavros Siolas, Foteini Velesioti and Costas Parissis who will help us with the lyrics and their composition and then they will select renowned signers who will perform them.
Moreover, we are all experiencing strange and difficult times in light of the new lockdown, and this particular lyric composition contest can be a pleasant and meaningful distraction. The participation process is simple. Any child (up to 18 years old) with the consent of his parent or guardian, can participate by sending lyrics or song (lyrics and melody) inspired by the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Participants can choose any right (article) of the Convention that inspires them or choose a right from the following:
– right to identity (no. 8)
– right of opinion and right to free expression (no. 12-13)
– right to privacy (no. 18)
– rights of the refugee child (no. 22)
– right to health/rights of children with disabilities (nos. 24, 23)
– right to protection against neglect and other forms of exploitation (nos. 18, 30, 34, 36)
or, finally, to make lyrics for the Network for Children’s Rights or all of the above together!
Entries can be individual or group.
The lyrics, or even the songs, can be in Greek or English and should be sent to the e-mail address of the Network for Children’s Rights diktio@ddp.gr until Sunday, February 28, 2021 in the way specified in the terms of the competition.
The lyrics will be selected from the entries that will become songs and will be released on cd and/or vinyl and will be titled “Songs for the Rights of the Child”. Regardless of the selection, all entries will be posted on the website of the Network www.ddp.gr
So let’s make every child’s right song!
*The competition is a continuation of the Network for Children’s Rights program entitled “What if we sing about them?”. Listen here to the first two songs created under the above program.
