PRESS RELEASE

EFIVOS is a European Erasmus+ co-funded programme promoting inclusive education and common values among young people by raising awareness and enhancing their digital skills in media literacy. The project involves organizations from six EU countries (Greece, Italy, Germany, Cyprus, Sweden, Spain) led by the Network for Children’s Rights, with the main aim of assisting adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as migrant and ethnic minority groups, to effectively integrate into society. This will be done mainly by introducing them to the principles of journalism and digital media, which ultimately will empower them not only to use digital media but also to use them critically and creatively in order to raise their voices and become active citizens.

Despite the difficulties and challenges posed by the coronavirus, the EFIVOS project was able to cope and adapt to them, by completing successfully the second phase of the programme, during which the Network for Children’s Rights recorded the methodology that will be the base of the training of young people on digital media. The guide was written based on the good practice of the Young Journalists programme, as well as the results obtained from the focus groups with professionals and young people, which took place in the different participating countries. The practical handbook of the methodology includes all the necessary steps that professionals need to follow in order to create groups of young journalists, who will produce original digital content and will manage their e-newspaper. In this context, the handbook has been translated into all the languages of the participating European organizations of the programme and will soon be available online and in print.

Now, EFIVOS enters the third phase of the programme, which includes the training of professionals on the existing methodology, in order to provide them with the necessary skills to empower young people by developing their media and communication skills. In this phase, online training seminars will be held for professionals, which will include lectures, interactive activities and practical exercises, in order to equip the trainers with the necessary skills to transfer the knowledge to the young people of their country, as well as throughout Europe. At the same time, an e-learning platform will be created, which will host all the educational material that will be used by the professionals for the implementation of the programme.
